WATER HOLE IN A BACKPACK
When I started my adventure with bushcraft-outdoor, (believe me - it was not said before), water was brought in an aluminum canteen from LWP.
.
The canteen had a wide opening, which made it easier to pour the "liquid", but take a drink from it while walking and don't spill it! Then came the plastic canteens from the ALICE set in covers with two press studs. With such a canteen, you could take it out, drink without spilling a drop, and hide it in the case. After some time, Nalgene
- beautiful, transparent, with a liter scale ... but again with a wide opening. And suddenly the frenzy - camel sacks!!!! WOW! Camelbacks. It was a great step for the sports, outdoor and uniformed services community. If someone had told me then that I would be taking water in ordinary PET bottles in the field, I would have either been offended by him for about ... 17 years, or I would have killed him on the spot.
So why not a wineskin? Because it can leak and flood the goods carried in backpacks. Or maybe just a tube with a cap that fits the size of the cork of a regular 1.5-liter bottle? If you buy a bottle of water in a village shop or get a bottle of water at the training ground, then you don't have to pour water into the waterskin, wasting time and risking the loss of fluid. You simply unscrew the bottle, adjust the length of the tube inside the bottle and tighten the bottle - the matter is done, you have a ready waterhole. Put it in the outer pocket of the backpack or a dedicated pouch (photo). If you collect water in the field, it is worth having an extra bottle and a water filter with you ..
When you are not using the bottle, it is easy to reduce its size by crushing it. The great advantage of using plastic bottles is the ability to carry liquids enriched in, among others, vitamins, such as isotonic tablets or Energy Drinks with MRE. Manufacturers of water bottles advise against it, but believe me, it is worth supplementing the deficiencies of microelements during long hikes. This is not just my observation. It is also recommended by many operators of special units operating in mountainous areas. With bottles that you can exchange cheaply, you don't need specialized waterskin cleaning kits. Make sure that the tube of the set does not bend after installation, put it on the harness using the Velcro loop.
When you get home, be sure to flush the tube, filter. Unscrew the bottles or just replace them. This is our idea for a waterhole supported by many years of experience, but if your idea can be cool or effective - share it with us.
